SACE

IT Needs

Website function, performance, security:

Summary of our core needs from Jason at FullSteam: You want the new folks to be familiar with WordPress, programming in PHP, and using version-control systems for code management. The main SACE site will need some more care and more computing power, as it sees much more traffic. Here’s a short list of folks who could support you with the main site:

PurpleCat Networks, Benji Burrell LLC, CoLab, Lydia Roberts Design, Integritive, Pixo Tech

WordPress site monitoring and maintenance

Current WordPress “Site Health” status flags:

1 “critical”: Background updates not working as expected (Background updates ensure that WordPress can auto-update if a security update is released for the version you are currently using.)

4 Recommended updates, including a system WordPress update (I”ve been told by Pantheo that we’re not able to do this on our own site.)

PHP monitoring example: One of the last exchanges with Jason: “Amy, the message you’re asking about is very important. PHP is the programming language that WordPress runs on. It’s been so long since your site has had any updates the underlying language version is in need of an update. The implications here are mostly in regards to performance, but also security. Your site hasn’t been updated in about a year.”

Cloudflare monitoring: (“December analytics email: Cloudflare served 99.64 GB of data, and mitigated firewall events.”)

Website design changes & updates

Reorganize menu and change tabs; code and direct content for DEI tags; restructure some page layouts; FIX the horrible search function

Computer Management – There are several computer management programs out. Would SACE benefit from one since almost every staff is remote? What are the pros and cons of the programs?

Security on the Macs. We have tried different programs in the past to keep our macs secure, do we need them since staff work so much in Google docs?

How are staff currently backing up their data? (consistent back up plan across the org?)

Microsoft Needs

We need to upgrade our Microsoft licenses. Microsoft is shifting towards 365 (cloud based). We need to find out if 365 is better than purchasing licenses like we have been doing.

Google Support Needs

Messages such as: 1) Google Search Console has identified that cleanenergy.org is affected by 1 Events structured data issue(s). Top non-critical issues‡ Invalid ISO 4217 currency code (in “offers”); and 2) “Search Console has identified that cleanenergy.org is affected by 1 Page indexing issue(s). Top Issues: Server error (5xx)”

We need (minimal) support of our Google Admin account once in a while. Usually when there is a threat

Insuring that we are keeping Google docs clean and secure
